How to Plant

Banana Seeds

+ Stratify the seeds.

The stratification of seeds is the process where the seed dormancy is broken to help promote germination.

– Soak the seeds in hot tap water for 24-48 hours.
– Place them in a plastic bag or sealable container with equal amounts of sand.
– Seal the plastic bag or sealable container and place in a cooler area.

• Check the seeds regularly to be sure that the sand is moist.
• Check the seeds after 10 days to see if they’re sprouting.

+ Once it has sprouted, prepare your outdoor bed/pot and fill it with soil.
+ Sow the banana seeds 1/4 inch deep with the root end down and backfill with soil.
+ Water until the soil is moist.
+ Maintain damp conditions when growing banana trees from seeds.

TIPS: Germination

• Keep the temperature at least 60ºF (15ºC).
• Germinating banana seeds can take up to two to three weeks.

Cherry Seeds

+ Cold Stratification.

The stratification of seeds is the process where the seed dormancy is broken to help promote germination.

– Place the pits into a plastic container with a tight lid.

– Store the plastic container in the refrigerator for ten weeks.

+ After ten weeks, remove the pits and allow them to come to room temperature.

+ Place two to three pits into a small container/pot filled with soil about an inch deep and backfill with soil.

+ Water until the soil is moist.

+ Once the cherry seedlings are at least 2 inches tall, thin them, removing the weakest plants and leave the best seedling the pot.

+ Keep your seedlings in a nice sunny area indoors until all dangers of frost outside have passed and then transplant outside.

+ Plant outside within 20 feet apart from each other.

TIPS:

• Plant more than one cherry tree to help pollinate.

• Keep seedlings well-watered and in moist soil until they reach 30 feet tall.

Apricot Seeds

+ Cold/Stratify the seeds.

The stratification of seeds is the process where the seed dormancy is broken to help promote germination.

– Soak the seeds in hot tap water for 24 hours.

– Place them in a plastic bag or sealable container with equal amounts of sand.

– Seal the plastic bag or sealable container and place in cooler area.

• Check the seeds regularly to be sure that the sand is moist.

+ Sow the apricot seeds 1 inch deep with the root end down and backfill with soil.

+ Water until the soil is moist.

+ Maintain damp conditions when growing apricot trees from seeds.

TIPS:

• Place/plant the apricot seed where there’s a lot of sun. The ideal temperature is 85ºF (29.5ºC).

• Cold stratification can take up to 4-5 months for apricot seeds.

• The trees will need an inch of water weekly, especially during bloom and fruiting.

• Most apricot trees are self pollinating.

• Apricot trees take two to five years to bear fruit.
